We’ll discuss the different types of eyebrow tattoos – microblading and powder brows – and what each type of healing process entails. Types Of Eyebrow Tattoos
There are two main types of eyebrow tattoos: microblading and powder brows.
Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing technique that uses fine needles to create hair-like strokes in the skin.
Powder brows, on the other hand, is a permanent tattooing technique that uses a special machine to implant pigment into the skin leaving your brows fluffy with a makeup look.
Day Of Your Procedure
On the day of your eyebrow tattoo procedure, you’ll want to avoid anything that could thin your blood or cause you to bleed.
This includes:
– Alcohol
– Caffeine
– Aspirin
You’ll also want to avoid working out as this can increase sweating and cause irritation.
Before any of your eyebrow tattoo appointments you should consult with your eyebrow tattoo artist to see which type of eyebrow tattoo is best for you and your lifestyle.

Microblading Eyebrow Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
The first eyebrow tattoo aftercare instructions we will talk is Microblading. There are two techniques to use to take care of your eyebrow tattoo.
Dry Healing vs Wet Healing
There are two ways you can heal your eyebrow tattoo: dry healing and wet healing.
Dry healing is the process of letting your skin heal naturally without any ointment or cream.
Wet healing is the process of using an ointment or cream on your tattoo to speed up the healing process.
The most important thing to remember is that you MUST keep your eyebrow tattoo clean!
Different tattoo artists will recommend different aftercare methods and you may use either method mentioned below.
Microblading Dry Healing Method Instructions
Using a light touch, blot your brows with a clean tissue every hour for the first day after your procedure. Blotting will remove the excess lymph fluid that is produced when the skin is broken.
Lymph fluid might sounds gross but it serves a very important process of cleaning the wound and protecting it from bacteria.
Too much lymph fluid will create thick scabs. Thick scabs can increase the likelihood of of pulling the pigment away from the brow when the scab falls off.
You will wash your brows daily with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water with a cotton pad. Then you will pat dry (do not rub) with a paper towel.
Microblading Wet Healing Instructions
Follow the first initial steps as dry healing by blotting your brows with a clean tissue every hour for the first day to remove excess lymph fluid.
Wash your brows two to three times a day with a gentle cleanser. Then apply a thick layer of aftercare cream that was provided in your aftercare kit.
Make sure you are cleansing your brows from any cream each time you wash them. This allows your skin to breathe and heal properly before applying more cream.
Powder Brow Aftercare Instructions
Day Of Your Powder Brows Treatment
Please wash your brows with cool water and antibiotic soap once in the AM and once in the PM. After you wash apply ointment that was provided to you.
Shower visors are recommended and used to keep your brows dry.
Your brows are going to be producing lymph fluid (clear fluid) for the next 24 hours. Please do not be alarmed if you see this. It’s normal.
Take a warm cotton round that is provided to you in your aftercare package and gently dab your brows to remove the lymph fluid. Do not rub. Just a light dab will do.
You will repeat this process 2-3 times a day immediately following your brow treatment. Follow by applying the gel provided with the lipstick applicator. Never use your raw finger.
Remember this is an open wound and you do not want to touch your brows with bare hands to minimize the risk of infection.
Day After Powder Brows Treatment
Starting the day after your treatment you will take a warm cotton round once in the morning and once in the evening to your brows. Dab them lightly and then apply gel. The gel will be applied 2-3 times a day for the next 7 days.
Next 3-4 Days
Scabbing is normal. It is also normal for one brow to scab more than the other or no scabbing at all. The brows will appear dark during this time then start to fade. Healed color and results are at 6 weeks so trust the process.
No water, other makeup, soap, lotion, or anything on them for 2 weeks.
Your touch up visit will perfect the brow and color– Remember this is a 2 appointment treatment.
What To Avoid After Your Eyebrow Tattoo Treatment
While you are taking care of your brows, there are certain things you should avoid until your eyebrows are healed for the best possible results. This includes:
- Swimming
- Direct sun exposure
- Hot tubs, hot showers and saunas
- Excessive sweating
- Chemical treatments like chemical peels, laser treatments and laser procedures
- Avoid creams that contain retin-A and glycolic acid that will be applied around the eyebrow area
Eyebrow Tattoo Healing Process: What To Expect After The Initial Procedure
The healing process for each type of eyebrow tattoo can take up to four weeks to heal.
After the initial session the treated area might be red and tender but that will go away in a day.
The first day after treatment the pigment will be dark, strong and unnatural in color but this is just the first step in the healing process.
The next few days you will notice your brows will start to scab. They might also be itchy but you must not scratch, rub or peel off the scabs. When the scabs start to lift and flake off it might look like dry skin.
The first week as your brows flake off you might see a patchy appearance with the loss of pigment. This is normal and all part of the healing process. Don’t panic you won’t be losing any color.
The new few weeks as your skin regenerates, you will notice the shade deepens in true color. This color will be more natural looking.
How fast your skin heals depends on your age and skin type as some people will heal faster than others. A normal range of time for healing is within 6-8 weeks.
Touch Ups
At the 6-8 week mark you will go back in for a touch up. At this touch up appointment your eyebrow tattoo artist will see how your brows are healing and will add more pigment if it’s missing any or the color isn’t the final result as you have wished.
If you are not happy with your brows you can go to a cover up specialist, like we have at Effortless Arches MedSpa, who are specially trained to fix bad microblading or powder brows. You can also get permanent makeup removed with saline tattoo removal.
During the healing process, it’s important to keep the area clean and dry. You should also avoid sun exposure and picking at the scabs that form.
